This project involved the interior fit-up of a new 31,000 square foot No Frills grocery store, delivered over a 21-week construction schedule. The scope encompassed a complete transformation of the interior space to support modern grocery operations, customer flow, and back-of-house functionality, while maintaining strict timelines tied to store opening commitments.
Despite facing numerous challenges related to weather-impacted deliveries and ongoing supply-chain disruptions, the project team demonstrated strong adaptability and coordination, ultimately achieving substantial completion on the original target date. Success was driven by proactive planning, frequent schedule reviews, and multiple strategic pivots of sequencing and logistics in response to shifting material availability. These adjustments allowed work to continue efficiently while minimizing downtime and mitigating risk to the overall schedule.
The construction scope included the installation of new VCT flooring throughout the retail sales area, providing a durable and customer-friendly finish. The project also featured the complete installation of new refrigeration systems, requiring close coordination with specialty trades and suppliers. During construction, an additional PC Express area was incorporated into the scope, adding complexity without impacting the overall delivery timeline.
Back-of-house areas were fully built out to support daily store operations, including a produce preparation area, chicken oven, walk-in coolers and freezer, as well as staff and management offices. The successful completion of this project highlights effective project management, collaboration, and flexibility in delivering a high-quality retail facility under challenging conditions.
