The rcs Run Club had an organic start with one of our Project Managers, Adam Maxner, taking to running in the Summer of 2023, inciting other staff around him to join him for runs around the area surrounding the Bedford office!
As interest increased, so did the lengths of the runs with other staff joining as walkers, promoting staff to get outside for some vitamin D and fresh air. By the summer of 2024, this group started to regularly connect and schedule runs, so they decided to coin themselves the “rcs Run Club,” team shirts were promptly made to signify the creation of this new club!
It didn’t take long before more people started to catch wind of this new group and join for runs or work alongside the club in tracking personal KMs and steps walked/jogged within the week. The group held each other accountable but allowed for flexibility as most people had different work schedules and situations at home with family, and other engagements. Collectively they ran over 150mi (241km) this past summer during their Thursday lunch runs. They were seen on the move in the blistering heat and pouring rain.
This was a slow build towards the rcs Run Club’s next big challenge, which was the submission of an rcs Relay Team for the Strum Consulting Team Relay hosted by the Bluenose Marathon. We decided to raise funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division. We are happy to report that after only a couple of weeks, and as of early February, the team is currently at the half-way mark with $1,500 and a total goal of raising $3,000 by May. If you are interested in making a donation, then please reach out to Adam Maxner directly at amaxner@rcsinc.ca.
Stay tuned to our website, www.rcsinc.ca/news, as well as our social media, links below, for updates on this group as they continue to grow and connect with communities where we live and operate!
“I’m a huge proponent of increasing mental health by exercise. When you can address both where you work and feel supported in these efforts, it’s a great thing. We spend so much time with our coworkers, so creating an environment where those people hold you accountable is truly special.” Adam Maxner, Project Manager – Major Projects
